Cap & Trade - Goose & Gander

I have had the privilege of visiting our nations capital. It is a beautiful city, but kind of make believe, like Disney World.

Washington DC has beautiful landscaping, lots of green space, museums, parks and even convenient usable public transportation.

I can understand how a representative from another state could spend some time there and loosing perspective of what its like for the constitutes they are there to represent. Let me be clear, I do not condone it, but I can understand how it could happen. (This is why I'm in contact with my representatives regularly, so that don't forget)

I'll simply ask this.... why would congress try to pass cap and trade legislation on all of their constitutes when they have tried it and failed?

I'm referring to their "Green the Capitol" program that House Democrats put into place shortly after regaining the majority in 2006.

The House supply store sells only 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. And Capitol cafeterias have switched to biodegradable plates, locally grown foods and a composting system that has cut waste.

And in regards to the biggest polluter in downtown Washington, the Capitol Power Plant, the House turned to offsets. In 2007, it paid a market, the Chicago Climate Exchange, for offsets equaling 30,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, $89,000 was the bill on that one.

They also changed thousands of light bulbs, the HVAC systems, vending machines and even payed Pepco extra for wind farm electricity.

The next year the House chose not to do it anymore, stating "carbon neutrality was no longer the House's goal".

Yet here they are trying to push the same failed system on America's businesses.

It was a failed experiment for them yet they see fit to legislate it to America's business.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander?
